FIRST AND SIMPLEST METHOD

If you are running firmware 4.0.1 or below and you are viewing this page via iPod Touch/iPhone simply click www.jailbreakme.com on your device and it will jailbreak your device. 

To know what firmware you are running, on your device go:

settings->general->about->version

If your firmware is above 4.0.1 or the jailbreak did not work then you have a number of choices. You can jailbreak with Spirit, Redsn0w, Sn0wbreez, Blackra1n, Limera1n or Greenpois0n.

SECOND BUT SIMPLE METHOD

Greenpois0n works for:
iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS
iPod Touch 4G
iPod Touch 3G
iPod Touch 2G
iPad

Does NOT Work for:
iPod Touch 1G
iPhone 2G
iPhone 3G

Once you have met the requirement above, the steps are as follows:

Simple Steps
1. put in DFU MODE
2. open up greenpois0n and click jailbreak
3. connect to wifi on device
4. look for blank app called loader on your device and click it. 
5. click and install cydia and when done remove loader.

BLACKRA1N JAILBREAK

Blackra1n works on:

iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch 2G and 3G. May not work for iPhone and iPod Touch 4G. 

This can only work on 3.1.2 firmware so if you do not have it download the firmware at this site:

Once you have downloaded the correct firmware for your device download blackra1n:

Now, when you have both the 3.1.2 firmware for your device and blackra1n on your computer, choose the read me file below that best suits you to guide you into Jailbreaking.

IPHONE BROWSER

Once you jailbreak if you do, you may need a software that can SSH into your device. SSH means that this software opens up ur device.

So for example instead of downloading a game for example (.ipa file) from your device, you can download it from your computer and SSH the file into your device so that way it will show up in your device and you'll be able to play it. This is an awesome software and a must have.

You can even SSH to make your device have a animated lockscreen wallpaper!

This software is called iPhonebrowser. Other alternative is iFunBox.
